PETT LEVEL

Pett Level is a quiet, evocative stretch of coastline in East Sussex, nestled between Hastings and Rye. It’s a place where time feels layered—prehistoric landscapes, wartime defences, and quirky seaside charm all coexist.

The beach itself is mostly shingle, held in place by wooden groynes, but at low tide, it reveals a flat expanse of sand and something far more ancient: the fossilised remains of a prehistoric forest, with tree stumps dating back over 6,000 years—remnants from a time when sea levels were much lower.
