SIZEWELL

Sizewell is a small coastal hamlet in Suffolk, England, best known for its nuclear power stations and its starkly beautiful shingle beach. It sits within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, blending industrial significance with a surprisingly tranquil natural setting.

There are currently two nuclear facilities on site:

  • Sizewell A: Commissioned in the 1960s with two Magnox reactors, it was shut down in 2006 and is now being decommissioned.

  • Sizewell B: The UK’s only commercial pressurised water reactor (PWR), operational since 1995, and expected to run until at least 2035—possibly extended to 2055.

The next chapter is Sizewell C.
