King’s Cross is one of London’s busiest Underground stations today, but beneath the crowds lies a fascinating maze of hidden and disused tunnels. Some old pedestrian passages, former station areas, and abandoned railway routes remain from earlier versions of the network, including tunnels that were replaced, rerouted, or left behind as the system expanded. Across London, there are many other disused Underground stations and tunnels, such as Aldwych and Down Street, which offer a glimpse into the capital’s transport history and reveal how the city has continually evolved over more than 160 years.
