Helmingham Hall is a striking moated manor house nestled in the Suffolk countryside, near Stowmarket. Built around 1510 by John Tollemache, it has remained in the Tollemache family ever since—a lineage stretching back over 500 years.
The Hall is surrounded by a 60-foot-wide moat and is accessible only by two working drawbridges, which have been raised every night since the 16th century. Architecturally, it reflects a late medieval/Tudor style, though later alterations by John Nash and others have added Georgian and Victorian touches
